FAQ

General

What does articulation mean?

We offer bed models that have head and knee articulation. Articulation is the raising of the head or knee section to a specific height. We offer this option in electric and manual foundations. The HEAD section moves from a flat position up to 70 degrees. The KNEE section moves from a flat position up to 40 degrees.

How long does it take to ship my SleepSafe® Bed after it has been ordered?

Once a bed is ordered by your Durable Medical Equipment (DME) provider, it may take up to 4 weeks to ship. However, production and shipping times vary throughout the year.

What type of wood do you use when building a SleepSafe® Bed?

SleepSafe® Beds use premium veneer core hardwood plywood produced domestically on PureBond® formaldehyde-free veneer core platforms and carefully monitored for a controlled thickness range.

SleepSafe® Bed’s all wood hardwood plywood panels offer clear advantages over solid wood panel applications. These panels offer great stability and durability, reducing the chance of splitting or warping which are inherent with solid wood applications.

The 4 bed posts on a SleepSafe® Bed are composed of solid wood and are designed to match the your finish choice. For example, we use solid oak posts to complement an oak finish.

PLEASE NOTE: When solid color or multi-color beds are ordered, the bed posts will be solid maple and will not match the colors of the bed panels.

For SleepSafe® Beds manufactured from January 30, 2015 to the present:  RESET INSTRUCTIONS

Can I buy a bed directly from SleepSafe® Beds?

We typically do not sell our beds directly to customers. Most SleepSafe® Beds are sold through a network of more than 3000 Durable Medical Equipment (DME) providers nationwide. These courteous, knowledgeable and trusted providers are set up to assist you with submitting an insurance claim, will make your bed purchase, accept delivery and deliver and install your bed at your home. They are an integral part of the process in acquiring a SleepSafe® Bed. We as the manufacturer are not set up to assist with insurance claims, nor can we bill on your behalf.

If we were able to sell a bed to an individual, we would require payment in full, in advance, before a bed shipped. You would incur an additional $275.00 for drop shipping a bed to a residence. The individual would have to accept responsibility for accepting delivery and installation. And most importantly, there would be no local representation for after sale service if needed. We strongly recommend, even someone who wants to pay cash, to go through a local DME provider.

If you need assistance finding a DME to help you through the process of purchasing a SleepSafe® Bed, please contact us at 866-852-2337.

Is there any maintenance that I should do to my bed?

As with any mechanical piece of equipment that has motors, electronic parts or moving parts, preventive maintenance should be performed regularly. At least once or twice a year, examine the bed and check all screws and fasteners for tightness. Over time through movement and use, a bolt may become loose. If you find a screw or bolt that is a bit loose, you can use a Allen wrench to tighten.

Be sure to ask your dealer at the time of installation to leave the Allen wrenches provide for bed assembly. You can use them at a later date should anything need tightening.

You can clean your bed with water and mild detergent using a soft cloth. Avoid abrasives and solvents.

I am moving. How do I move my SleepSafe® Bed?

It’s best to call your local dealer that helped you purchase the bed. They may be able to help you move your bed. Not all dealers offer this service and may charge a fee. There is also a pamphlet and video about moving your bed available in our website’s RESOURCES, under the CONTACT tab.

The most important thing is to be extremely careful to keep all nuts, bolts and small pieces together. The bed is actually quite easy to take apart and put back together if you take your time and stay organized.

My child’s medical needs have changed. Can I change the foundation?

Yes. Most SleepSafe® Bed foundations can be converted to another choice, depending on the year they were manufactured. Older beds, prior to 2009, may not be able to be converted. We will be happy to assist you. Give us a call toll-free at 866-852-2337 for more information about SleepSafe® Bed conversions.

To convert any SleepSafe Bed foundation, you will need to purchase a Conversion Kit from SleepSafe® Beds. This kit will include a new foundation and side panels. You will use your existing mattress, casters, safety rails, head and foot boards. Insurance may or may not cover the additional cost of the conversion kit. It may be necessary to submit another letter of medical necessity justifying the change. You will need to make the purchase through your local DME provider of SleepSafe Beds.

How can I find a Durable Medical Equipment (DME/HME) provider in my area?

Please call toll free 866-852-2337 and ask for the name and number of a local dealer in your area. We will assist you in finding the best DME provider to work with you.

Is the remote control for SleepSafe® Bed operation wired or wireless?

Current SleepSafe® Bed Hi-Lo and Articulated foundations use wired remote control. Older models used a wireless remote control.

Important  Note: Because older Articulated foundations have a wireless remote control that is operated through radio frequencies, you cannot have more than TWO articulated beds within a 500 foot area. We can program the remotes so they will not interfere with each other, but we can only program 2 beds. If more than two beds are needed in one location, you MUST be sure that they are far enough away from each other, otherwise, when you operate one remote control, it may adjust the other bed in a different room.
